Spanish Interior Design

Spanish style home decorating is a great way to get a rustic but colourful look into your home. This style, popular in this part of Andalucia, is strongly influenced from the days of the moors and is really suitable for any area, adding a unique touch to any home. Spanish style decorating in the home and garden is warm and inviting, and usually has a sense of family and the community in the design. Spanish Mediterranean colours and themes create a rich earthy colour palette that is drawn from nature. Bring the rich Moorish reds and oranges of terracotta into your home with tiles, fabrics, pottery, leather, ceramics, copper and wood. Shades of green and blue bring the outside in. The look and casual feel of woven tapestry throws draped over chairs, a table embellished with a tapestry runner and an old world theme wall hanging compliment Spanish interior design and bring additional Spanish colour to your decorating palette.
In your Spanish style home, faux finished walls imitating creamy stucco enhance this interior design style and aged textured wall treatments complimented by plaster mouldings, ceiling medallions, cornices and columns create an ideal setting for Spanish décor.

When you want to decorate your home in a Spanish style, you can let your imagination go wild and have some fun. The Spanish style is very interesting with vibrant colours and textures used within it

Colours

When it comes to Spanish colours, you should think about using bright or deep colours like red, yellow, orange, terracotta and blue. You will be able to bring out the Spanish décor elements with these bold colours. Be sure to add a beige or white to the mix as well to give the colours a nice background. Plain white walls throughout are also very popular, but again, an accent of bold colour can liven up the scheme completely.

Furniture

Although it really doesn’t matter what type of furniture you use when you are using Spanish style home decorating, it should be comfortable and casual. Unless you are decorating a formal dining or living room, Spanish styled furniture is not overly formal. So be sure it is comfortable and big enough for everyone in the family to lounge on. Spanish style uses a lot of dark woods - worm wood in particular is nice, however any furniture can fit into the Spanish scheme.

Accessories

Use Spanish accessories to add an authentic touch to your décor. Grill grates and other accessories that use wrought iron can add a great touch, especially if they are vintage. Wrought iron light fittings can also make a wonderful statement. Spanish pottery is another item that can be displayed in any room. Open fires or cast wood burners offer a focal point, and can add to the homely atmosphere.

Flooring

A Spanish style looks great with rustic tile flooring. Not the shiny porcelain stuff but the big reddish terracotta tiles. Also, hardwood floors can go wonderful with this style. To soften up the room accent it with big Spanish style rugs.

Choosing to decorate your home with Spanish style means you can bring the elements in without spending a lot of money. You can simply add photos of your family, a few bold colours and comfortable furniture to get the look you want.
