Architecture
and Places to See
The heart of the village is the Plaza de Prado, where most of the
shops are located and where most people tend to gather for social
events. The Town Hall – Ayuntamiento is situated in the main
square where the renowned fountain known as the 'Fuente de los tres
Caños' can also be found. The water from this fountain, which
is said never to dry up, is apparently one of the best sources of
water in the province.
The Parish Church of the village
of 'Nuestra Señora de los Dolores' was built at the end of
the 18th century and then restored during the 1950's. The landmark
white tower of the church can bee seen from any point of the village.
Monuments include The Hermitage
of San Juan and San Isidro The Hermitage of San Antonio and The
Hermitage of the Virgen del Puente.
At the foot of the San Jorge
Mountains Cién Caños – 100 pipes - gush water
out of the mountainside in early spring. A really spectacular sight.
Food & Drink
Local food and drink is varied, but the most traditional dishes
are Porra Fria which is a cold thick gazpacho and a cold soup 'ajoblanco',
made with almonds and garlic.
There is also a wide selection
of pork products available there and pastries of the area are excellent
too. The olive oil, as well as the flour for bread is still made
in the old fashioned way, without additives or new processes.
