DRESS FOR HEALTH: COLOUR THERAPY

Part 2: Blue Black Brown White Violet Indigo Pink
Green with envy, seeing red, feeling blue, colours are often used to describe our emotions but did you realise that your choice of colours may actually reveal more about you than just your tastes or that the colours you wear may even affect your mood? ........This month Sarah continues to guide you through the colour spectrum.

BLUE:
Blue is the colour of truth, nobility and serenity. It has a cooling, soothing and calming effect. Meditating on the colour blue before sleeping can help to ward off nightmares. Anyone who consistently wears blue is a deep thinker and tends to re-energize by seeking their own company above that of others.
Blue lowers the blood pressure, the heart rate, and respiration thus helping people who are feeling frightened or flustered. Blue has been found to make people feel cool in hot and humid environments therefore blue coloured clothes should be worn to combat the heat in the summer.

In the physical sense, blue is useful in bringing down a fever. It helps to stop bleeding, is good for burns and can cure a sore throat. It is recommended for people suffering from shock, inflammation and nervous breakdowns. It is not advisable for people with bad circulation. Wear blue when you want to exude an air of calm authority, when you need to be more organized and when you want to communicate something important.

To help relieve the pain of ulcers, back problems, insomnia, pain, rheumatism, and inflammatory disorders, surround yourself with blue, and focus your mind on the body part you want to heal while looking at the colour. One good place to do this is in the countryside, where the blue of the sky and the water can impart a feeling of calming "oneness" with the universe.
Blue can be calming to the point of having a sedative effect. In one study, children prone to aggressive behaviour became calmer when placed in a blue classroom.
An overdose of blue can make you feel cold, sad and depressed. Don’t wear blue when you are feeling isolated or lonely, if you feel depressed or if you have a tendency to be too critical of yourself or others.

BROWN:

Brown is the colour of survival. Wear brown when you need to get some hard work done, you want to organise your finances or that you want to feel that all in your life is going well. Brown can help you in your determination to succeed.
Don't wear brown when you want to expend lots of energy, you are feeling too bogged down with things and especially if you are not interested in hard work and want to play instead!

BLACK

Black is a power colour and therefore is a great colour to wear when you are supposed to be in charge of a situation. Wearing black commands authority and shows that you have made a decision and are not 'open to suggestions'. Wear black when you want to feel confident and strong. Black can help to suppress the appetite. If you want to lose weight, cover your dining table with a black tablecloth.
Black can also be worn when you want to hide your true feelings, as it is non-revealing. Black makes us mysterious. Teenagers wear a lot of black as it signifies a time of change, when you are going from one phase of your life to another. It can however mean that you are also in a period of self-denial. Black can make you isolated.

WHITE:
Wear white when you want to feel clear headed and open-minded. Also for times when you want to discuss new ideas with people and are in an ‘open to new ideas’ mood, but don't want to take action.
White can make it difficult for you to take action and make decisions. It can also make you feel a bit isolated, like black.

VIOLET

Violet is a very powerful colour and has strong links with creativity. Like blue and green, violet evokes a peaceful feeling. Violet is good for scalp and kidney problems and for migraine headaches.
Those drawn to this colour are often shy. It is useful for people who are excessively emotionally agitated. It also helps compulsive eaters to calm down and control their compulsion to eat. Violet can indicate major change and a need to retreat, as a caterpillar retreats into a cocoon before it transforms into a butterfly.
Wear violet when you want to transform something in your life, you are seeking purpose in your life or you need to let go of destructive behavior or addictions. Don't wear violet when you are daydreaming instead of doing, you want to turn your back on society or you are suffering grief but your emotions are blocked.

INDIGO:
The colour indigo is associated with the mysterious and the profound. Wearing this colour can indicate a tendency to look beyond the surface of things, being drawn to higher things, sometimes even the occult.
Indigo stimulates the intellect. It gives a person a sense of courage, authority and inner calmness. At the physical level, indigo purifies the blood. It is a useful colour to wear if you have diseases of the ear, nose and eyes and for sinus problems. Wear indigo if you have diseases of the nervous system, boils and ulcers, or skin disorders. Be careful not to overdose on indigo as an excess can give you a headache and make you feel sleepy.

PINK

Pink has a soothing effect on the body, relaxing the muscles. Because it has been found to have a tranquilizing effect on aggressive and violent people, pink is often used in prisons, hospitals, and juvenile and drug centers. Those suffering from anxiety or withdrawal symptoms can benefit from pink clothing.
Pink symbolises unconditional love; it is a good colour to wear in bed where it can help evoke feelings of romance. Wearing it encourages a sense of affection, increases sensitivity, and challenges you to confront your vulnerabilities.
Wear pink when you want to feel feminine and vulnerable, you want others to love you instantly or you need to concentrate and listen.
Don't wear pink when you feel vulnerable and insecure, you are giving all the time and not receiving, you feel fragmented.
